In a recent edition of the San Francisco Bay Guardian, journalist Rebecca Bowe explored the competing models of solar – residential installations versus massive desert ground mounts. The article “Big Solar, Little Solar” interviews Luminalt’s Jeanine Cotter to understand how residential solar installations are both environmentally and financially savvier for consumers. As the Sierra Club points out, the residential installation model can also support communities as they take control over their power, offering the option of going solar for less than either PG&E or the massive desert ground mount installations that are popping up in California. Localized installations also avoid the miles of transmission lines necessary for desert ground mounts.
