The San Francisco Green Film Festival, now in its second year, just announced their lineup for this year’s festival. Showing at the San Francisco Film Society Cinema at 1746 Post Street throughout the week of March 1-7, the Green Film Festival is dedicated to presenting forward-thinking programs of films and discussions that inspire environmental action and advocacy.
We at Luminalt are particularly excited to see On Coal River, a look at how the despoliation of an Appalachian Valley for cheap dirty energy profoundly affects the local residents and environment. Considering the implications of the contamination of the community’s drinking water, to the destruction of an Appalachian mountain top, the film is billed as capturing “the true human and environmental costs of ‘cheap’, dirty energy.” The film follows the struggles of unlikely environmentalists to protect their home. You can view the trailer here on the film’s website.
The film follows the struggle of parents at Marshfork Elementary School to move the pool of toxic coal sludge away from their children.
On Coal River will be playing on Saturday, March 3rd at 3:30pm, along with animated short The Windmill Farmer. Tickets and passes to the festival are now on sale. You can view the Green Festival’s entire program on their website.
