After installing solar at Mission Pie in February, the local pie shop has installed a monitoring screen in the cafe that shows what their Luminalt-installed system is producing. The screen, an energy efficient LCD monitor, shows a chart illustrating historic electrical consumption against projected production of the solar system. Next to this chart is a live graph of what the system is producing in kilowatt hours and the kilograms of carbon dioxide it is offsetting. The graph updates every 15 minutes with information gathered from the system’s inverter. The inverter is the box that converts direct current (DC power) from the solar panels to alternating current (AC power) for use by the building. Mission Pie uses electricity from the sun to power such equipment as their ovens and mixers.
