An article published today by the San Francisco Business Times features the work of Inner City Advisors with local businesses including Blue Bottle CoffeePrather Ranch Meat Co., and Luminalt.

Inner City Advisors is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization leading the charge to create good jobs for Bay Area inner city residents by providing high-impact entrepreneurs and small business owners with expert advice, knowledge & investment to grow their businesses.

Below is an excerpt from the article:

“They can be very successful, but if they don’t create jobs, they’re not for us,” said ICA’s executive director Jose Corona. “We are obsessive and fierce about ensuring that we work with companies that are going to create significant amounts of good, quality jobs, with an emphasis on jobs for those individuals with higher barriers to employment.”

Jeanine Cotter, CEO of Luminalt Energy Corp., the San Francisco designer of solar electric and thermal systems, is one of four companies currently applying to be one of ICA’s portfolio companies.

While Luminalt experienced huge growth in its first few years, the company’s revenue has recently been flat due to a drop in the price of solar and increased competition.

“ICA is coming at a good time,” Cotter said. “The organization has a way of making sure that I have the skills, thoughtfulness and external check-ins to make sure that I’m doing the right the things to run my company better.”
