This week, we checked in with B&W Service Center to find out about their decision to go solar was working for their business. B&W is a local auto repair, service and maintenance center that has served San Franciscans for 35 years. They are an industry leader in customer service, known for their 99.1% customer satisfaction rate, but what pleasantly surprises people is that they are a certified green business.

“We woke up to the fact that we were tired of paying PG&E and we started looking into different ways to reduce our cost of electricity” says Bill Mufarreh, B&W’s Service Manager. “Once we started looking into solar, we started finding out about our environmental impact. I didn’t realize just how much of the carbon footprint that we actually created after looking at all the numbers it was pretty huge. Now we are almost net zero. It is pretty amazing. We received such positive feedback from our customers.”

Installing solar has not just made their customers happy, it has slashed B&W’s electric bills. “The financial savings we’re seeing is about $900 a month, for the past 12 months, so that’s about $10,000 the first year, which is huge.”

“It amazes me that everyone who could go solar, doesn’t go solar. Think about it the way you think about buying a car. You buy a car and in five or six years, it pays for itself. Then it’s worth nothing and you have to replace it. You buy a solar system, and in seven years it pays for itself, and then you get another twenty years of free electricity.”
