GoSolarSF is an incentive program that helps San Franciscans install solar panels. The program works by providing a cash grant to homeowners and businesses for installing a solar electric system. One of the exciting aspects of the program is the way it helps grow the local economy by making the grant available exclusively to people and businesses who use solar installers like Luminalt that hire San Franciscans through workforce development. This creates sustainable, local, full-time jobs in a growing field for individuals who have not been part of the workforce.

“One of the beautiful things about the GoSolarSF program, is that it fosters the development of stable, full-time jobs for individuals from disadvantaged communities who otherwise would not be able to enter the growing clean tech field. We are delighted that Mayor Lee, the Board of Supervisors, and the PUC are making such a wise investment in solar and in San Franciscans.” says Luminalt CEO Jeanine Cotter.

We are proud of the part we play in creating opportunities and growing the local economy, and are thrilled that our customers receive a cash incentive for going solar when they choose to go with us thanks to this innovative program.

Mayor Lee announced that funding for the program will double from $2 million-$4 million a year, beginning July 1, 2013. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is currently working out the details of how the incentive will be structured and expects to announce the final details in August. While the incentive structure has not been finalized, homeowners and businesses who install solar, beginning July 1, 2013 will be eligible to apply for the incentive once the PUC announces the policy.
