Last Friday, October 14th, more than 80 people came to the Luminalt warehouse in San Francisco’s Mission District to hear Green Empowerment’s Dexter Gauntlett talk about his work in the Philippines scaling up renewable energy, water, and sustainable agriculture projects in some of the most remote villages in the country. Between the open bar, gorgeous garden, and fantastic music spun by Luminalt’s own Janaye Adams, the event was a group effort by Luminalt’s team members for a non-profit doing fantastic work. Luminalt’s partnering with Green Empowerment represents a multi-generational commitment to the core values of social justice and sustainability. Green Empowerment was established more than a decade ago by Michael Royce, Luminalt CEO Jeanine Cotter’s father. Last Friday’s event at Luminalt was put together by Claire Hill, Michael Royce’s granddaughter and the current Director of Marketing at Luminalt. In a further joining of the generations, Dexter Gauntlett’s past nine months in the Philippines was funded by a bequest from Michael’s mother. All told, four generations have worked to improve access to renewable energy and a better quality of life.
