PBS’s Ask This Old House crew was in town recently to learn about residential solar installations from the experts. Luminalt’s Anukene Warda showed Ross Trethewey, the show’s Alternative Energy Expert, how we install solar. Working on the roof of a Bernal Heights home, Anukene and Ross put up 10 Suntech panels withEnphase microinverters. As they explain in the show, microinverters convert DC (direct current) power from the sun into AC (alternating current) for use inside of the home. Rather than having all of the solar panels on the same inverter, numerous microinverters are used to convert electricity from each panel separately. Microinverters are particularly useful for urban areas where partial shading can be an issue.
Ross Trethewey talks with the homeowner about his new Luminalt solar system as Luminalt’s Norman Ferrer and Monique Washington prepare to bring panels up to the roof
For many homeowners who want to take advantage of solar’s environmental and financial benefits, the upfront cost can make going solar difficult. Luminalt removes that upfront cost by offering homeowners the ability to finance their solar system with SunRun. With SunRun, homeowners buy back power over 20 years for less than what they pay their utility, allowing homeowners the ability to install solar for a low or no upfront cost while still reaping many of the savings. As electricity prices rise, your savings only increase.
